As the project lead for 1210 Wien, I developed "Kick&Vote" as a response to digital passivity, using the football pitch as an experiential space for co-determination. Funded by the Democracy Capital Vienna, the project engaged youth in Floridsdorf to explore social barriers, negotiate collective rules, and take active responsibility for their local community.
Democratic Rule-Making: Through tournaments and workshops, participants were encouraged to question traditional football rules and develop new, collective game forms that prioritize inclusion and shared decision-making.
Critical Social Discourse: The project extended beyond play, including a film screening of Offside to facilitate discussions on cultural barriers, political frameworks, and the systemic disadvantage of women in sports.
Bridging Urban Subcultures: At the "Underground" pitch beneath the A22 motorway, the project hosted graffiti workshops that brought together sprayers, skaters, and footballers, fostering creative exchange across different social groups.
Public Interaction: Interactive posters and public interventions in shared spaces prompted youth to engage with the fundamental pillars of democracy in their everyday environment.
Empowerment & Sustainability: The project culminated in a final tournament in January 2026. The two winning teams were awarded prize money to realize their own community projects in local youth centers, ensuring that the democratic principles experienced on the pitch lead to real-world impact.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Realized in cooperation with partners such as Wiener Jugendzentren, Bahnfrei, and Fachstelle Demokratie, this project represents a holistic approach to social design and neighborhood activation.
